Reading Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley tonight -
Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley are the best of friends. But they are different in almost every way
Pearl likes solving mysteries and moves rather fast in the world.
Charlie likes taking baths and watching his garden grow.
So how can Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsely be such goods friends?
When Charlie Parsley feels scared of scary things... Pearl Barley makes him feel brave. She's his hero.
Beatrix: Harper is my hero.

Scripture
I asked the girls how their first scripture* class was today:
Beatrix: We went to the blue room door class
Mum: And what did you do?
Lily: Colouring
Harper: But it was boring.
* It is compulsory for all children to attend either a scripture class (religious instruction differs from school to school, don't get me started) or "non-scripture" which as far as I can tell equates to watching TVv

At my penultimate preschool committee meeting...
We all know that things can get a little off track at P&C meetings. Well at tonight's the quote of the evening went to the wonderful Allison telling about us the instructions she received when the most recent batch of chicks were received for hatching, if something "goes wrong":
"If you are uncomfortable, ask one of your friends that is familiar with poultry".
What exactly IS being "familiar with poultry"?

Riding around on our pushbikes, honey
An afternoon cycle around Sandringham - lovely darling!
We even saw a house for sale the girls thought they might like (ie had a pool and a flag pole) - but for $3.5M I don't think so! 18 February 2013

Harper taking the roll at home. Note: it is not acceptable to say "present". One must say "Here" or "Goood morning" only, or you get a cross against your name. 18 February 2013.

Parental conundrum: Monday
Tears at teeth time...
Mum: Harper, what's the matter?
Harper: That girl at school was playing with Beatrix and Lily and she said she wasn't my friend.
Mum: Which girl? What is her name?
Harper: I don't - hic hic - know.
Mum: It's good to have your own friends.
Harper: But that is mean. If she is my sisters' friend she has to be mine too.

Parental conundrum: Sunday
Dad: What are you worried about, Beatrix?
Beatrix: I don't want Harper to say that she won't play with me.
Dad: Harper, is that what happened?
Harper: I was playing with Faith. Do I always have to play with them?
Dad: No, you don't always have to play with them, but it's nice to make them happy.
Harper: But Faith is my buddy.
Dad: And it's good to have your own friends.

Teacher material
Harper made her own "cutting practice" sheet today. She says she wants to be a doctor on Tuesdays and a builder on Sundays, but maybe a teacher Thursdays and Fridays?
